Understanding Vaping
Vaping is the action of inhaling vapor or smoke from an external source like an e-cigarette. The smoke that these e-cigarettes produce is unlike tobacco smoke. It is a chemical smoke that contains toxic particles. And it is these particles that cause serious health problems including respiratory issues.
The younger consumers (teenagers and pregnant women) have an increase in the number of health problems country wide. The increase in this trend is often associated with the increased use of vaping devices.
This trend has not only alarmed the healthcare industry but also the US Food and Drug Agency and Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
How does a vaping device work?
A vaping device like an e-cigarette or a vape pen, contains a little cartridge. A flavored liquid, containing chemicals and metals, is poured in this cartridge. A battery operated mechanism helps to heat up and vaporize the liquid. And a consumer then inhales this vapor.
Chemicals used inside the vaping device
Many vaping devices use chemicals like:
- THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) that induces the feeling of ‘high’ found in marijuana. The smoke inhaled from illicit THC can cause serious illnesses that may even lead to fatality. Indiana, Minnesota and California have already reported fatalities as a result of inhaling THC.
- Pesticides, opioids, poisons
- Diluents such as triglycerides, Vitamin E acetate
- Propylene glycol
- Nicotine
Heating and forming vapors from these chemicals increases their toxicity. This affects our health and well-being.
Symptoms associated with vaping
Repeated usage of a vaping device comes with its share of side effects. These side effects range from anywhere between mild to severe. Many consumers have reported health problems or illness to their healthcare providers as a result of using vaping devices.
- Initial symptoms
- shortness of breath, breathlessness, chest pain.
- Gastrointestinal symptoms
- Some others have experienced mild to moderate vomiting, diarrhea,
- Generic symptoms
- fever and fatigue.
In some cases the severity of the symptoms lead to patient hospitalization. While in other cases patients need to be put on a ventilator as they are unable to breath.
Lawsuits related to vaping
The damage caused by these vaping devices to our health is no longer a grey area open to debate. Subsequently, consumers have become aware and have filed litigations against manufacturers of these devices. Consumers who suffered with serious lung illnesses due to the use of a certain vaping device have taken the matter to the authorities.
Consumers have come under heavy financial burden due to hospitalizations, diagnostics and subsequent treatment costs that add up. And if this is not enough, you may end up with some disability that may affect your day to day routine. Have you been using a vaping device and has it led to some respiratory or lung problems? Did you need to get hospitalized? If yes, then consider filing a lawsuit. You would be doing a big favor to not only yourself but to your community as well. You will make them aware of the health hazards of vaping.
