Vaping- a major health hazard
In recent months, vaping related health problems have peaked up nationwide. The center for disease control and prevention and the US Food and Drug Agency are monitoring the situation very closely.
- What is vaping?
It is an action where a consumer inhales smoke produced from a device like an e-cigarette, or a pen shaped device. It is supposed to be a safe alternative to a traditional cigarette.
- How does it work?
Unlike a tobacco cigarette, a vaping device has a small cartridge which is filled up with a liquid. And this liquid contains certain chemicals and metals. A battery operated mechanism is then used to heat and vaporize this liquid. Finally, consumers inhale this vapor.
A vaping device was introduced as a safer alternative for the traditional tobacco cigarette. This idea seems to have misfired completely. Consumers are not aware of the ill effects of using such devices.
- Chemicals used in vaping devices
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is a chemical used extensively in these devices. THC is the same chemical found in marijuana that gives the ‘high’ feeling. Other commonly found chemicals in vaping devices are opioids, additives like Vitamin E acetate, Propylene Glycol. Heating and vaporization increases the toxicity levels of these chemicals.
Health problems associated with vaping
Vaping is an addictive action. It happens to use chemicals that give the consumer ‘high’ feeling similar to substance abuse. Unknown to the consumer, these devices impact the health negatively. More than 2500 people (as per CDC) have suffered health problems that have resulted in hospitalization country wide. Therefore, it cannot be ignored. So what is it that you should be looking out for if you suspect that your ailment might be a result of vaping. Some of the symptoms that have been reported are;
- Breathlessness, shortness of breath
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Nausea, and vomiting
In some cases, these can become very severe and create complications. As a result of the increased vaping trend there is an increase in vaping lung damage.
Healthcare providers recommendation
The general recommendation by the healthcare agency now is that vaping should not be indulged in. Based on this recommendation, many states are trying to regulate the selling of vaping devices.
With the alarming rise in the number of lung disease instances and other medical problems related to vaping, it is not surprising to see a significant increase in vaping lawsuits filing throughout the country. Consumers and their families are becoming aware of the dangers of vaping as they see their loved ones suffer in pain. And with the help of healthcare agencies, they are suing the manufacturers of these vaping companies for not disclosing the side effects and others threats of vaping.
Juul Labs Inc. lawsuit
One of the leading manufacturers of vaping devices like e-cigarettes called Juul Labs faces multiple lawsuits from many consumers from across the country. These lawsuits are pointing to various aspects like:
- Improper marketing: Marketing their products as a safe alternative to cigarettes. Targeting young adults and teenagers to use their products.
- Use of e-cigarettes causing severe debilitating strokes and seizures
- Defectively designed products and Juul failed to warn the consumers about it.
