When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone back in 1878 he changed the world forever. That being said, he would be horrified to learn how scammers and some dishonest businesses are now using the phone to not only harass people, but to swindle them out of their hard earned money. Sorry Mr. Bell, but it’s true. If you find yourself on the receiving end of these upsetting and dangerous phone calls, the good news is that there are a few things you can do about it. Here are five (5) ways to stop unsolicited phone calls.
Join The Do Not Call Registry
The very first step that you should take to stop those annoying unsolicited phone calls is to sign up for the Do Not Call Registry. In essence, the Do Not Call Registry lists the names and phone numbers of people who do not want to receive unsolicited phone calls from companies that take part in telemarketing practices. Simply call 888-382-1222 to join the Do Not Call Registry. Telemarketers can be fined for calling you if you are on the list. However, you do need to keep in mind that dishonest companies and scam artists may still attempt to contact you.
Contact Your Home Phone Service Provider
If you are receiving unsolicited phone calls on your home phone line/landline there is a simple way to block those annoying calls for good. Contact your phone service provider and see if they offer a call blocking service. If they do, simply ask them to activate it for you. You do need to keep in mind that there may be an additional monthly fee for the service, but it may be well worth it to get rid of those annoying and unwanted callers from calling you at all hours of the day and night.
Add An Inbound Call Blocking Device To Your Home Phone
If your phone service provider does not offer a call blocking service or you simply don’t want to pay for it on a monthly basis, there is another way that you can block unsolicited calls on your landline. Simply purchase an inbound call-blocking device, plug it in between your phone line and phone outlet and enjoy the peace and quiet. You do need to keep in mind that when anyone calls you, including family and friends, they will need to enter a code in order to get through the call blocker. Although this can be a bit annoying, it is well worth it.
Download A Call Blocking App On Your Smartphone
If you are receiving unsolicited phone calls on your smartphone/cell phone there is a simple way to block those annoying calls for once and for all. There are many applications for both Android phones and iPhones that you can download that block calls from those annoying telemarketers, especially if they attempt to call you from an “unknown” number in order hide the actual phone number that they are calling from.
Alter Your Smartphone Settings
Another way to block unsolicited calls on your smartphone is to change the settings on your phone. Did you know that both Android phones and Apple iPhones can be set to only receive calls from numbers that you approve of? That being stated, there is a slight drawback to this. For example, if a person or organization that you actually want to hear from is calling from an “unknown” number, the call won’t go through.
