It May Not Be Fair But Debt Collectors Can Now Message You Through Social Media

It may not be fair, but a new federal law will now allow debt collectors, including collections agencies, to message you on social media. That means whenever you log on to your favorite social media site there may very well be messages waiting for you that you don’t want to deal with. By the way, under the same rule, debt collectors will now be able to contact you through email and text messaging as well. That means they can virtually reach you on all of your electronic devices, which is not something that you need right now. Times are difficult enough. Life is stressful enough.

This holds especially true for people who owe debt, and have past due balances. It may already feel like whenever the phone rings it’s a debt collector on the other end of the line. You may be stressed out every time that you go to the mailbox. Now they will start to hit you up on your computer too. When you are in debt and debt collectors are after you, life can be a bit overwhelming to say the least.  Now it will be a bit more overwhelming because debt collectors can contact you using electronic based devises on top of the telephone and United States Postal Service.

However, just because debt collectors can contact you in more ways now, it absolutely doesn’t mean that they can debt harass you and get away with it. So what do we mean by debt harassment. Well, there are federal laws in place that protect you from the dishonest strategies that a few of the worst of the worst debt collectors utilize in order to force you to pay them. The bottom line is that these less than above the board operators will stoop to the lowest levels in order to scare you into paying them sooner rather than later.

They use these deceitful tactics on the phone and in letters that they mail you. Now they will most likely use the same exact type of procedures when contacting you on social media, text messages, and emails.

Has any of the following happened to you?

If a debt collector contacts you and informs you that they plan to have your employer withhold your paycheck until you pay the debt that you owe than that debt collector is committing debt harassment. Debt collectors have absolutely zero power when it comes to having your paycheck withheld by your employer.

If a debt collector contacts you and informs you that that they plan to tell your boss that you’re not financially responsible and that you can’t be trusted than that debt collector is committing debt harassment. Debt collectors cannot talk to your boss about your financial situation including the past due debt that you owe them.

If a debt collector contacts you and informs you that they have the power to either arrest you themselves or have you arrested by a police officer than they are committing debt harassment. Debt collectors do not have any powers to arrest people, and they don’t have any power to have you arrested by the police.

If a debt collector contacts you and informs you that they will cause you or your family members any physical harm in any way whatsoever than they are not only committing debt harassment, they are also intimidating you in an illegal manner.

If any of the above situations have happened to you than you are technically a victim of debt harassment. The good news is that we can help you sort your way through it and take action that will make it stop. You may even be entitled to compensation for any pain and suffering that their actions may have caused you. Some people who are in debt are so scared of debt collectors that it makes them physically and emotionally ill. For example, has any of the above debt collector threats given you so much stress that you end up with a stomach ache or headache?

Have any of the above debt collector threats depressed you to the point that you simply do not want to get out of bed in order to face the day? If you answered yes to either of these questions than you may be entitled to compensation. A great deal of debt collectors break the rules because they know that most people have absolutely no idea that what the debt collectors are doing is illegal in the first place.
