Protect Yourself from Collection Agency Harassment Calls:
Protect Yourself from Collection agency harassment calls. If you owe a past due debt and are being contacted by a collection agent or even multiple collection agents than you may be experiencing collection agency harassment. That brings two (2) questions to mind. First and foremost, how do you know if you’re rights as a consumer are being violated? Second and just as important, what can you do about it if you are being harassed by a collection agency? Debt harassment is an unfortunate part of the business of collecting debts. Not all collection agents and collection agencies utilize this tactic, but the bad apples seem to ruin the entire crop.
Examples of Agency Harassment:
Many debt collectors will call you at all hours of the day and evening. They know you don’t want to pick up the phone and speak with them. However, the more times they call increases the chances that you will become so frustrated with the phone ringing that you’ll give in and pick up the phone. You need to know that debt collectors are committing collection agency harassment if they call you any time earlier than 8 am, and any time later than 9 pm. However, they are allowed to call you before 8 am and after 9 pm if you give them permission.
So, how can you protect yourself?
Another example of harassment is when a debt collector threatens you in any way, shape, or form. If they tell you that they will have you arrested for failure to pay your debts they’re actually committing collection agency harassment. Some debt collectors will even stoop so low as to threaten to garnish your wages if you fail to pay them the debt balance. Once again, they are not allowed to do this. There have even been cases where the debt collector will threaten to have your children removed from your household unless you pay them the money that you owe.
This is a case of Debt Harassment. So, what can you do about it?
