Are You Having Trouble Paying Your Bills Due To Covid?

If you are having trouble paying your current bills and or have past due balances on your debt due to Covid then you’re certainly not alone. Millions of people across the United States are in the same boat as you. It’s unfortunate, but it’s true. The Covid pandemic has negatively affected us all in some way. The economy is in turmoil. Many people have lost their jobs. Others have lost their small businesses. Some people have lost even more then their income, they have lost their lives. It is certainly not a surprise that a great deal of consumers are now experiencing a situation where they owe money to a collection agency.

It’s hard enough to pay for basic necessities, let alone credit card debt. The federal government needs to realize that there are countless people that simply cannot pay their past due debt at this time. That being stated, there may be some good news regarding that on the horizon. The new administration is a consumer friendly administration. That means they may very well do something to help people who have past due debt balances and accounts that have gone to collections. What exactly the new administration will do to help remains to be seen.

In the meantime, we can help you right away, especially if you are experiencing debt harassment. The fact of the matter is that debt harassment comes in many forms, but it all boils down to the same thing. The bottom line is that if a debt collector contacts you and abuses, harasses, or oppresses you in any way, they are committing debt harassment. There are federal laws in place that protect consumers against debt harassment. The previous administration was pro big business instead of being pro consumer. That means that the previous administration deregulated some of these laws in order to make it easier for debt collectors to collect debt from consumers.

The new administration is projected to beef up the laws that protect consumers from debt harassment. In the meantime, you still have consumer rights. That means debt collectors are not allowed to call you prior to 8 AM in the morning. They are not allowed to call you after 9 PM in the evening. Debt collectors are not allowed to call you at work if you inform them that it interferes with your job. Debt collectors are not allowed to contact your boss in order to inform him or her that you owe a debt.

In fact, debt collectors are not allowed to contact your co-workers, family, friends, and neighbors in order to inform them about your debt, including the fact that you even have debt in the first place. Debt collectors are not allowed to threaten you. In addition, debt collectors are not allowed to yell at you on the phone or speak to you in a manner that makes you feel uncomfortable. They are not allowed to bully you or insult you in any manner. Even though consumer based debt harassment laws are in place to protect you, some debt collectors break the law.

In essence, they will call you at all hours of the day and night including before 8 AM in the morning and after 9 PM at night. Some debt collectors will call you at work even after you have informed them not to do so. Some debt collectors will contact your boss and provide them with information about your debt in order to embarrass you. They will also contact your co-workers, family, friends, and neighbors and inform them about your debt in order to embarrass you. The worst of the worst debt collectors will threaten you.

For example, they may inform you that you will be arrested if you don’t pay your debt. Some debt collectors may threaten to have you wages garnished if you don’t pay your debt. Some debt collectors may threaten to have your children taken away if you don’t pay your debt. Some debt collectors will threaten you with physical harm if you don’t pay your debt. If a debt collector does any of these things they are committing debt harassment. Even though they may think that they can get away with it, they cannot as long as you do something.
